23 Things Assignment #8 - Do You YouTube? - Another Video

This is a funny video clip from YouTube called "Gopher Broke". I remember this first time I saw this video clip and I couldn't stop laughing. I love animation, and this is by far the funniest video clip I seen using animation, it takes the cake!!!

I think TPL could use YouTube to publish the services we offer to our public, also video clips of our branches that are renovated or rebuilt newly. This would give the staff of TPL to see the branches before renovated or rebuilt, and after being renovated or rebuilt (outside and inside). I think it would have positive potential for TPL. We could provide video clips of events we have at TPL as well ---- that would be interesting.

This is my favorite video which explains what Web 2.0 is all about. I found this to be a very powerful video (especially with the music of "Deus"). An excellent video which I think everyone should watch. In fact, the first time I watched this video it gave me goose bumps.....no kidding!!!

23 Things Assignment #8 - Do You YouTube?

This video is called "Tall Tales at the Library"

Its an animated short from the 1985 Reading Rainbow episode "Paul Bunyan" and features a little girl who goes to the library reading tall tales. Stories shown are Paul Bunyan, John Henry, and Johnny Appleseed. RR is hosted by Levar Burton of Roots and Star Trek: The Next Generation fame. It still continues to run on PBS affiliates and in schools around the country encouraging kids...

23 Things Assignment #7 - Podcasting

I found this interesting, subscribing and listening to Podcasts. I'm looking forward to spending more time away from work to listen to the subcribed Podcasts. The podcasts I subscribed to can be quite long and I didn't have enough time to listen to a whole podcast.....needed to get back to work. But, having said that, I can always try to find leisure time to delve into it more. I subscribed to the following podcasts from "Podcast Alley":

"Two Blind Squirrels" - Family Fun, Funny Bits, Unsigned Artists Music, Interviews, Lighthearted, Christian but not preachy

"The Boy's Adventures" - Real bedtime stories for a 6-year-old boy

"OurFirstMarriage" - Two people. Two kids. One marriage. Podcasts (barring catastrophic events) will update on Sunday (usually late). We\'ll be discussing marriage, breastfeeding, relationships, kids, and pretty much anything two married people with drinks might discuss late on a Friday or Saturday night. Pour a tall one, put the kids to bed, and take a listen. But most of all, Listen to your Child!

23 Things Assignment #6 - Online Office Tools

I really like Google Docs has to offer. Creating documents and having others collaborate on them from any PC, and where ever you may be. It's a great concept. I like how it's very similar to Microsoft Word with its' features built right in - like Styles, etc. I think it's a tool I could use. This would be a great concept for TPL to start using, especially when dealing with external people, where you need their collaboration with documents, etc. I had fun creating a poem and asking 23things to collaborate -- can't wait to receive the collaboration!!!!

23 Things Assignment #5 - Tagging and Social Bookmarking

This was a useful exercise. Although, it was a bit cumbersome to setup....., but once it fell into place it was fine. This is a great way to access your bookmarks from any pc (work, or home). I tagged some sites for parenting. Articles for good references related to parenting are always useful for me, since I have twins. I also want to continue this to bookmark anything related to poetry because I have been writing poetry for many many years. It's great to see others who have bookmarked sites, articles that would be of interest to me as well. Looking forward to continuing the social bookmarking!!!!

This was interesting. I found this picture which amuzed me. Thinking of turning on the television, finding the right station for the Weather network and the right time (every 10 minutes) when the local forecast comes on.......way too much of a HASSLE!!!

I thought this was funny!!!! Just look at the rock hanging outside......the local forecast right at your fingertips.

23 Things Assignment #3 - RSS Feeds

Well, just finished the Assignment #3 by creating a bloglines account and subscribed to the following RSS Feeds:

http://feeds.rd.com/ReadersDigestJokes
www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/RecipeOfTheDayRSS.aspx
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/index.rss
http://feeds.feedburner.com/walks-of-a-lifetime

I found this very interesting, being able to get feeds through bloglines and not have to go to the website at all for areas of interest. I find this particularly useful for leisure at the moment, since there are areas of interest on a personal level, but I can see how this would be useful for doing research for work and/or school......takes away the hours of trying to get to every website which is time consuming. Also, I see a drawback to this, that it can get out of hand and subscribing to all sorts of RSS feeds and then not having the time to get through it on a daily basis if this is your good intentions......to much information all at once. Depends how you look at it.

23 Things Assignment #2 - More Pics

Here are 2 more pics to add to my blog. I didn't think I had any pics on my PC, but I did have pics of my twin boys born February 2003.

This is Nicholas, born 8:30 a.m. and weighing 7lbs, 9oz.
Nicholas is the practical one, the neat one that likes everything in order. When he plays with something, it's black and white to him, and uses the toy for what it does.

It's hard to believe that they are now 4 years old (going on 5) and are in Junior Kindergarten this year.

This is Brandon, born at 8:31 a.m. and weighing 6lbs, 5oz.
Brandon is the dramatic one, such the little actor when he plays. He's the messy one (lets his brother do all the cleanup - when he can get away with it!!!). When he plays with something, he's the creative one, and tries to see what it can do if he plays with it another way than what it's meant for. They really are opposites in personality.
And yes, I was huge just before they were born.

23 Things Assignment #2

Not many people know about Burano, Italy. This was one of my favorite spots to visit on our trip to Italy in 2001. Burano, Italy is a small island just a boat ride from Venice. It is a quaint town known for its' beautiful brightly coloured homes, and canals running through it, just beautiful!!! When visiting Burano, it really feels like you're in a totally different world with its' laid back life of the people living there. Burano is also known for its' magnificent detailed lacemaking. The streets are lined with quaint shops selling lace and older women sitting outside shops doing what they do best - lacemaking. So if you ever visit Italy in the future, make sure you visit Burano.

23 Things Assignment #1

Wow!!! this is interesting and can't wait to continue with the future exercises. I found this first assignment easy to follow. I have researched and created a document about "What is Web 2.0?" In it, it includes some of the features of Web 2.0, and of course, blogs is one of them. It is interesting to now have the opportunity to put the document I created to practice, and have hands on training related to the topic.
